Experience the golden grain of the Göta Canal from Söderköping and Mem by the Baltic Sea to Motala by Lake Vättern. The Östergötland part is experienced here by both bicycle and boat. You spend the first night in Söderköping. Stroll around the picturesque and cozy streets in Söderköping and experience Astrid Lindgren's "Madicken city".
On the bicycle saddle you get to experience one of the most beautiful parts of the Göta Canal, the Berg - Borensberg tour. This is one of the canal's absolute top attractions and one of Sweden's most spectacular constructions. The impressive lock staircase, which consists of 7 locks, raises and lowers the boats no less than 18,8 meters. At first glance, it seems completely impossible to climb, but the designers, led by Baltzar von Platen, performed fantastic building technical works.
The journey continues through a living countryside with houses and manors from the 1700th and 1800th centuries.
With M / S Kung Sverker, the journey continues across Lake Boren and on to Motala. In Motala you can follow the fantastic building project at the Göta Canal Exhibition at Motala Workshop. The cycling holiday can be summed up as a beautiful story through soothing landscapes and historical wings.
To get back to Söderköping, there are buses between Motala and Söderköping at regular intervals, see timetable for Östgötatrafik.
